What I would do is figure out what you would charge a stranger. After youget that, adjust it to give your boss a decent price. I would just make sure it is still worth your time. That help? _________________ Thom Downs

^^
thats the thing, i dont really even know what i would charge a stranger.
heres some pics, the 3 or 4 layers of paint are flaking off, so it all has to be sanded down to the metal. after that, itll need a glaze of body filler over most of it because theres dings and gouges all over the place.
it stands about 2 1/2 feet all around.

That looks like ALOT of work. Especially because you have to take into consideration the hinges and the latches and the WEIGHT alone. Are you looking to make money or do somebody a solid. I myself, being in NY, wouldn't charge less than 800. If I wanted him in my pocket for a favor later on I would charge him less. If you do give him a deal, MAKE SURE HE KNOWS IT. _________________ Thom Downs

5+ months later.....
since then my camera was lost/stolen, so these were taken with my cell phone and enhanced a little with photoshop....
**note, the allthread handle is temporary until they figure out what they want, they mentioned something about a beer tap handle or something. ill let them deal with that.
the dial goes in the center...
this one i couldnt really fix with photoshop, it was just too grainy or something.

i got $875 for it.
im pretty happy with that amount. my boss called me today and told me how happy he was with it, and just about an hour ago they called and asked if i was interested in painting the company vans.
still not sure if im ready for that, im not set up for it for one thing, so i would have to rent a booth every time or something.
ill have to look into it. |

...so the locksmith finally gets around to putting the combo dial on the safe.
or tries to.
from what i heard he loosened the screws holding the door together and it came crashing down on his hand turning it to hamburger. the guy that told me said he could see the guys tendons in his fingers.
they had to call an ambulance and everything.
when i took it apart to paint the door, that thing came crashing down on me too but i was kinda expecting it to. i dont know what this guy was thinking.
just bad luck i guess, really bad luck. he'll be out of work for a while. |
