hmmm, that is subject to opinion... but here's what I'd recommend:

Mack series 10 brush (blue thread) 00 or 000 (sword striper)

2-3 cans of 1-shot (really you could get by with 1, but how boring would that be?) Maybe black, white and red... don't get yellow to begin with, it will frustrate the hell out of you.

paint can opener, or a small screwdriver, etc. I made my own out of 1/4 inch steel.

Mineral spirits. I recommend the 'odorless' even if it still has some smell to it, just not as strong as the regular. This works for cleaning brushes, as well as thinner when you are striping. You could also get 1-shot reducer, but mineral spirits works fine for practice.

jars, or cans or something to put the thinner in.

palette: old magazines or catalogs... glossy pages work better to me

clipboard for your 'palette' (I like working this way, you may decide not to)

something to stir the paint with... popsicle sticks, or I use a palette knife and wipe it off. Again a matter of preference.

old t-shirt you can use for a rag (good for wiping up mistakes)

paper towels

stabilo aquarelable pencils (1 white 1 a darker color like navy or black... DON'T use red)

A box to keep your stuff in. Doesn't need to be huge or elaborate to start... make sure you enjoy striping first.

pratice surfaces.

probably more, but these are at least the basics.

I just got my materials! How do start? How should I prep my brushes? What are some good drills that I can practice with?

Nah I didn't feel bad. I think I did find the info I needed though. I Laid down a few lines last night to try it out. I really like the way the 1-shot and the mack brush feels. Unlike any other style of painting I've ever done. I'll be posting my work as I progress. Thanks again!

HI, you may find these little movie files useful- my son put them together the other day of me striping backwards along some cart spokes.
