Ahh, the movie event of the summer has arrived!!
Going tonight to see everyone's favorite Webhead
in "SPIDER-MAN 2". i'll post my review when i can...
BTW, Spider-Man 2 could rake in $150 million between Wednesday and Monday, which would surpass the record $146.9 million that “The Matrix Reloaded” grossed in its first six days. Shrek 2” also opened on Wednesday and set a record for best 5-day opening at $129 million, beating “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” which did $124.1 million last December. On its first Saturday, “Shrek 2” also scored the best single-day gross ever with $44.8 million, $1.2 million ahead of the previous record held by “Spider-Man.”
Considering the enthusiastic early reviews, “Spider-Man 2” could end up sweeping away ALL the debut records. The film opens in more than 4,100 theaters, about the same as “Shrek 2” and well above the 3,615 cinemas for the first “Spider-Man.”
(Damn my fingers hurt!)

Just saw it! WOW! I liked it better than the first! I'll save the discussion until I see that everyone starts chiming in. Don't want to ruin anything (spidey dies ) Just Joshin' Many improvements in the CGI from the first, and Molina was great as OC. _________________ Keith Ciaramello

Saw the movie opening night...i think i liked about 75% of it...
Since i've now made this a Spoiler thread, i'll go ahead with
my 2 cents about what i liked and didn't like-
•The effects were better than the first one. Specially
the battle scenes!!
•Too many campy moments!! Getting a little worried about
where this may lead the franchise.
•Does a Secret Identity mean anything anymore?
(i suppose the filmakers decided that Tobey Maguire
just hadn't had quite enough face time yet...) the train
scene bothered me 'cause the heroism of the scene
could have been done just as well with the mask on.
•Kirsten Dunst is no Mary Jane. worse casting to me.
(Needed someone hotter, like Jessica Biel...)
•Doc Ock talking with his tentacles. i just didn't find it
interesting that they would alter his character like that.
they're tentacles, not snakes...
i could go on but i'll wait for everyone else's reactions
first on this. Overall it was pretty cool, but I had more
problems with this film storywise than the first one.

I loved the movie! Here's my comments:
• I liked the tentacles somewhat controlling Ock but I didn't like the noises, too Alien-esque.
• I liked that he revealed himself. It gave me a sense of relief because they focused so much on the burden of hiding his identity.
• If by "campy" you mean the "funny" parts, I kind of agree. While I feel they were successful in this movie, I'd hate to see them get cheesy in the future.
• As with the first, I am impressed with the large amount of information without the story seeming jumpy or cramped. While watching, I'm just thinking about future Spiderman movies. They could make these for the next 20 years as far as I'm concerned.
That's it for now. _________________ Scot Winskye

Saw the film last night and enjoyed it, more than the first...but the main problems I had were in the believability of the relationships.
Wouldn't Harry, who seems to be a multi-millionaire, help out his best friend, just a bit? Peter's living from paycheck to paycheck (which are becoming non-existent for him), in a squalid, tiny apartment and yet he doesn't get an ounce of help from Harry. Likewise, Harry seems to be a close friend to his Aunt May as well and he doesn't help her out, either. That I can forgive, as he doesn't really know about her not making the mortgage payment, but still.
Since both Peter and Aunt May are having such troubles, you'd think he'd just move back in with her and try and help to pay the mortgage, rather than the two of them struggling to get by.
It was also a bit of a jump from the last movie, where Mary Jane was just beginning her acting career, to being the lead in a Broadway show and the face of a popular cosmetics line.
As for the secret identity thing, I agree with that..there was really no need for him to take his mask off during the train episode. It wasn't as if it had ripped off at that moment. Spider-man in the comics would never just take his mask off like that. The only one they left out from knowing his secret identity in this one was Aunt May. Maybe next time.
I also wanted more humor from Spidey...a problem I had with the first film. In the comics, he's always cracking one-liners while in the midst of battle...there were like two or three in this movie, if that many. And while I enjoyed the battle scenes, they moved a bit too fast for me, and were still a bit too cgi-ish looking.
There were other problems, but those were the glaring ones for me.
