Hey gang...i'm strugglin with this. I'm tryin to finalize the artwork for some shirts I'm having printed...this is going to be a small 1-color design..probably on the sleeve of the shirt.
I'm thinking some stickers in the future too but I'm hopin someone can help me spot the weaknesses and maybe lend some advice on making it better check it out.
or
a little change that was suggested already.

i was going to say maybe some details in the brush, but then i scrolled down to the second pic.
looks cool, but if youre not happy with the second pic, maybe make the same thing, just a little longer? |

i have a small problem with the brush. it just doesnt read as a brush to me straight away. it took me reading this thread to figure out that it is a brush. maybe add some ferrule wrap? maybe some wood grain on the handle/head? i dunno. it could be me. i would show it to people and ask around if they realize its a brush. yah, i know art is subjective blah blah blah, but this being a business card, it is meant for the general public and needs to be recognized and accepted by them. also, for the brush hairs, i would suggest a combination of the two versions. use that nice clean outline of the first one, but instead of making your dark part one solid triangle, break it up a bit to read more like brush hairs.
what happened to the lettering in the second design? it was all nice and centered, but its running long in the second one. i would leave it more centered.
just my 2 cents.
cool idea by the way |

excellent feedback Wiz...i suspected the brush was a bit obscure...the i liked the centered text better too.
I'll kick it around a bit more and see what I can come up with. I'm trying to get this stuff off to the printer tomorrow but it might have to wait a little longer.
thanx again _________________ http://www.rockyburris.com |

That's my favorite of the lot of 'em! I like the movement in it... the others seemed a bit too rigid. Very cool!! _________________ www.pinheadlounge.com/Phoenyx |

NOW you're gettin there! I like that brush a lot. To throw in my 2 cents... I like the thinner, hand-written look of the "pinstriping by..." lettering that you used in the first 2 examples. Also, if you do this complete design as a cut-out then I think: very cool! If it's going to be in a black square like it looks here, then that big empty space on the top-left is a little bothersome/distracting. Otherwise I love it! _________________ "All I need outta' life is big-city livin' and a voodoo woman named Phyllis" -- Alboito Bouche

i totally redid the brush hair and I'm thinking of changing the secondary fonts back.
this is what the sticker would look like...the black background was to see what it would look like on a black shirt.
still think it needs something in the upper right corner joey?

I think it looks great! I think I mis-understood when I mentioned about the upper right hand corner. If you're gonna put that image on something, a t-shirt or something --- it's perfect, wouldn't change a thing! When I first looked at it, I saw a square boarder. If it was gonna be a square shaped sticker, then every area of the sticker would have something going on except for that upper right-hand corner, which makes it feel unbalanced. I don't know if that made it more clear, or more confusing! Either way, the image kicks-ass! _________________ "All I need outta' life is big-city livin' and a voodoo woman named Phyllis" -- Alboito Bouche

I'm calling it done...took a lot more time than I would have expected but I learned quite a bit and I just wanted to thank everyone for their guidence.
here's the finished piece...I got some pretty kool pinstripe designs to get converted to digital format then the shirt order is off to the printers.
thanks again everyone. _________________ http://www.rockyburris.com |
